Edward Francis Olechovsky, 86, beloved husband of the late Beaufort "Boo" Goodman McCuen Cheves Olechovsky, passed away Friday, July 4, 2008, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born January 15, 1922 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, Mr. Olechovsky was a son of the late Frank and Mary Antol Olechovsky. Ed was a man of considerable education. He was a graduate of Grove City College (PA). He obtained a Masters Degree at Florida State University and was a Doctoral Candidate of the University of North Carolina. Ed was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and a Fraternity Advisor at Furman University.

He was known fondly by legions of students as "Mr. O", due to his teaching Latin at Furman University, Queens College (NC), & Northern Montana State College. Upon returning to Greenville, Ed taught at Christ Church Episcopal School and Travelers Rest High School. He also tutored in Latin, Greek and Modern Languages.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he actively participated in the Wednesday Bible Study and the Elderberries. He was also a member of the Golden Cavaliers of Christ Church School and Past President of The Polish American Club.

Ed served in the Air Force where he was a Veteran of World War II, having participated in D-Day.

He is survived by two sisters, Eleanor Olechovsky, Virginia Olechovsky Kovall and her husband, Andrew Kovall, and also a sister-in-law, Olga Olechovsky, all of Pennsylvania; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Ann Cheves and Gordon Sherard, Lang and Kay Cheves, Tom and Donna Cheves, Wally and Beth Cheves; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Olechovsky was predeceased by a brother, Frank C. Olechovsky; a sister, Margaret Olechovsky Miklos; and a step-daughter-in-law, Min Murray Haselden Cheves.

The memorial service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2008, in the Harper Chapel at First Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church-Turner Memorial Shepherd Fund-200 West Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or to The Edward F. Olechovsky Scholarship Fund at Grove City College-100 Campus Dr., Grove City, PA 16127-2104.
