Edward C. Taylor Sr.

Edward Coles Taylor, Sr., age 91, of Greenville, husband of the late Katharine Blakey Taylor, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born April 23, 1921 in Columbia, S.C., Mr. Taylor was a son of the late Dr. Julius Heyward Taylor and the late Margaret Rhett Taylor. He graduated from The Hotchkiss School, and he was a member of the Class of 1944 at Yale University, where he ran track and played quarterback on the football team. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
Mr. Taylor started his career in construction with Daniel Construction Company and then founded Taylor Construction Company, where he ended his career. He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal and he was an avid golfer.
Surviving are two sons, Edward Coles Taylor, Jr. (Sydney) of Greenville and Bruce Hagood Taylor of Easley; two daughters, Ryland Blakey Taylor of Columbia and Katharine Taylor Robertson of St. Petersburg, Florida; five grandchildren, Edward Coles Taylor, III (Jenna), Martha Laurens Taylor, Ashlee Lynn Taylor, Christine Robertson Martin, and Beau Taylor Robertson; great-grandchildren, Jaiden Douglas Martin and Olivia Grace Meggs; and a sister-in-law, Ryland Blakey Furlong (George[Skip]). In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Benjamin Walter Taylor (Betty), Julius Heyward Taylor (Lucy) and Goldwyn Rhett Taylor (Ann); a sister, Helen Taylor McLeod (Mullins); and a daughter-in-law, Martha Laurens Taylor.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Sunday at Christ Episcopal Churchyard.
Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the Parish House-McCall Parlor at the church.
