Effie Pitts Merritt, 92, of Piedmont, wife of the late Bryan Merritt, died Saturday, September 8, 2007, at NHC of Greer.

Born in Laurens County, a daughter of the late John B. and Maggie Watkins Pitts, Mrs. Merritt was a homemaker and a founding member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She prayed for Covenant Presbyterian Church for forty years before it came into existence.

Surviving are two sons, E. Ben Merritt and his wife, Penny and J.B. Merritt and his wife, Dionne, all of Piedmont; a daughter, Iris Donnan and her husband, Phil, of Piedmont; a sister, Minnie Merritt of Hartwell, GA.eight grandchidren, Midge Merritt Cole, Benji Merritt, Mary Ann Merritt, Jayne Merritt, Susan Merritt, David Donnan, Elizabeth Donnan and Rebecca Donnan and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Reverend Steve Perkins and Mr. Ben Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Iris and Phil Donnan, 119 Wyatt Road, Piedmont and will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road.
