Ruth S. Ross

Effie Ruth Simmons Ross, 92, of 102 Shady Oaks Street, died Friday, January 11, 2008, at National HealthCare in Greenville.
Born in the Griffin Community of Pickens, Mrs. Ross was a daughter of the late Seth Julius and Estelle Riggins Simmons. She was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church and was very active in the WMU both at the church level and the association level. Mrs. Ross was a former Sunday School teacher. She was retired from Alice Manufacturing after more than 50 years of employment. At one time, she wrote the Arial Community News for the Easley Progress. Mrs. Ross was a volunteer at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.
Surviving are two daughters-in-law, Ellendel Howard Ross, and Jo Ann Roper Ross, both of Greenville; one brother, Rudolph Simmons of Easley; three sisters, Cleon Sanders of Liberty, Julia Simmons, and Jean Burgess and her husband, Bob, all of Easley; five grandchildren, Tami Ross Dailey, Timothy Ross, Craig Ross, Marty Ross, and Andy Ross; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Abbitt Ross; three sons, Lester Abbitt Ross, Jr., Wallace Edward Ross, and Bobby Gordon Ross; one brother, Cecil Simmons; one sister, Nan Childs; and a great-granddaughter, Beverly Ross.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
