Elgin Eugene Hunter Sr., 81, of 472 Patterson St., Central, S.C. passed away on February 24, 2006 at 2:20 PM surrounded by his loving family at his home. Elgin was born in Central on July 21,1924 to the late Earl Sr. and Bertha Cook Hunter. Elgin went to Central High School where he graduated in 1942. He was a WWII veteran. In 1942, he went to Kent State University where he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, as an Air Cadet Flight Systems Specialist. His ambition was to fly. In 1946 he started work for Hill & Sanders Ford in Washington D.C. where he specialized in automatic-transmissions as a diagnostic technician for over 32 years. Elgin returned to Central in 1983 to spend his retirement years on the homestead where he was born.

In addition to his loving wife Ola, Elgin is survived by three sons; Elgin Eugene Hunter Jr., and his wife Mary of DeForest, Wisconsin, Allan Douglas Hunter and his wife Laura of Venton, Virginia, and Mark Gregory Hunter and his wife Marian of Sherrills Ford North Carolina; three step children of 39 years; Phil Vest and his wife Freeda of Guntersville, Alabama; Carolyn Sudduth of Colonial Beach, Virginia; and Nancy Mills and her husband Stanley of Knoxville, Tennessee; three brothers; Mike Hunter of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; Hampton Hunter of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; and Olen D. Hunter of Griffin, Georgia; Two sisters; Eloise Hunter and Christalee Costello both of Clearwater, Florida; 16 grand-children and 17 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Theodore, Earl Jr, and Nathaniel.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 28 at 3pm at the chapel of the Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3pm at the funeral home prior to the service.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
