Elias Benton Eskew, �??Ben,�?? of Clemson, SC, died on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at the Cottingham House in Seneca, SC.
Born in Anderson County, September 5, 1922, he recently celebrated his 88th birthday at home with his family.
The son of the late William Elliott and Annie Garrison Eskew, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marian Warner Eskew, his daughter Frances (Harold) Allen of Clemson, son Elliott Eskew of Greenwood, and daughter Elvie (Joe) Eaddy of Florence; grandchildren Charles Allen, Angela Allen, William Allen, Heather (Brad) Burton, Morgan Eskew; and great-grandson Parker Burton.
He received degrees from Clemson University and Ohio State University, and was employed for 38 years as a professor and research agronomist with Clemson University. After his retirement, he volunteered with Clemson Meals on Wheels for 25 years. He was a member of Clemson First Baptist Church for over 60 years where he served as deacon and in many other capacities.
A private family graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery on the Clemson University campus. The family will receive visitors at 12:30 PM, Monday, September 20, at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church of Clemson, with a memorial service beginning at 2:00 PM.
