Elizabeth Steadman Burks, 91, passed away on April 17, 2024 while in the loving care of Cottingham House Hospice in Seneca, SC. Elizabeth (Betty) was born in Decatur, Georgia on June 24, 1932, the daughter of Mark Sidney Steadman and Marie Hopkins Steadman. She is survived by her three children Diane Langos and her husband Bruce (Ohio), Dirk Jacobson and his Grandson Kyle (Central) and Cynthia Jacobson (Anderson) and is also survived by her step-children Tucker Burks (Davidson), Jennifer Dawson (Georgetown) and Kari Beth Trent (Indianapolis). She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Mark Steadman and his wife Jo, her nephew Clay Steadman, her grandson Tyler Jacobson, and her husband Bob Burks.
Betty attended Armstrong College in Savannah and later moved to Dayton, Ohio where she lived until 1985 when she moved to Clemson to start a new life closer to her brother Mark, his wife Jo, and her mother Marie. It was while in Clemson that she met and married Bob and began the happiest years of her life.
Betty worked at Belk’s and other women’s apparel stores and both Betty and Bob were active with the First Baptist Church of Clemson. She loved to garden, had a penchant for pink, and was an impeccable dresser. She was truly loving and kind-hearted, never had a harsh word to say, and possessed a great sense of humor.
A memorial service is planned for Monday, May 6th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Clemson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the First Baptist Church of Clemson whose congregation was devoted to and ever-giving to Betty, the Alzheimer Association or to the charity of your choice.
