Elizabeth Sheldon Fowlkes, died July 15, 2014 at the age of 100. Born in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Augustus and Ruby Brooks Sheldon. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Roy Maier Fowlkes, Sr.

Mrs. Fowlkes attended Converse College in Spartanburg, SC where she was a music major. She was active in all areas of music, with a reputation as an excellent pianist and teacher in Atlanta and Greenville, and served as organist and choir director in several churches, including the First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta and the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. In Greenville, she was a member of the Laura Ebaugh Music Club, local bridge and book clubs, and was active in her church.

Returning to Atlanta in the 1960's, she continued her love of music as an active member of Roswell Duet Club. She also was active in local civic activities. She was a member of the Roswell Presbyterian Church in Roswell, GA. Moving to Clemson, SC in 1996, she joined Fort Hill Presbyterian Church where she was a member of Circle 4, and enjoyed participating in the Good Neighbors group and Sermon Starters.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and John Gilreath of Clemson, two granddaughters and their families, Beth and Bill Jansto of Harmony, PA and Emily and David Leviner of Madison, AL, and three great grandchildren, Susan Jansto of Warner Robins, GA, Allison Jansto of Harmony, PA and Jonathan Leviner of Madison, AL. She was predeceased also by her son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Mim Fowlkes of Atlanta, three brothers, Charles Sheldon, Brooks Sheldon and Robert Sheldon. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

The family wishes especially to thank Diane Bird, Helen Terry and Sonia Cantrell for their many years of devoted care and the staff of the Hospice of the Foothills Cottingham Hospice House.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, Tartan Hall, with burial at a later date in Atlanta, GA. A reception for the family to receive visitors will be held following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 Edgewood Aven., Clemson, SC 29631 or to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672 or the charity of one's choice.
