Elizabeth (Lib) Cowen Pitts, 95, widow of the late Ira S. Pitts, Jr., died on August 26, 2009 at the home of Nancy Brown in Gaffney. Mama II, as she was known to her family, was a homemaker and an active and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother .

Born in Coffee County, Alabama, she lived in Clemson from 1965 to 2004, when she moved to Gaffney to live with her daughter, Nancy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, an avid golfer, canasta and bridge player, and fan of the Atlanta Braves.

She is survived by her four daughters: Nancy Brown of Gaffney, Jane Autrey of Charlotte, Libby Driggers and her husband Bob of Central, Marion Sieffert of Clemson; six granchildren: Brad and Kim Brown of Dewey Rose, GA, Motte and Beth Brown of Colorado Springs, CO, Marian and Will Peeler of Roebuck, Jason Brown of Spartanburg, Tway and Branch Carter of Grovetown, GA and Dawn and Peter Kimmich of Brussels, Belgium; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family will be at their respective homes.

Services for Mrs. Pitts will be held on Saturday, August 29 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a private family burial at Old Stone Church Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at Lawrence Chapel UMC, 2101 Six Mile Hwy, Central, SC. The family will receive friends at a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall of Lawrence Chapel following the memorial service.
