Mrs. Ellen Retha Alexander Owens, 89, wife of the late Joseph Bennett "J.B. Red" Owens, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at her home.
Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Walter William and Maggie A. Alexander. Mrs. Owens was the owner, operator, and founder of the assisted living facilities of West End Retirement Center, Maggie Manor, and Easley Retirement Center, where she worked actively until the age of 89. She was the last surviving founding member of the South Carolina Association of Residential Care Homes, where she remained currently active. Mrs. Owens was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, John W. and his wife, Janice H. Owens, Steve A. and his wife, Cindy S. Owens, and Bert J. Owens, all of Easley; six grandchildren, Brantli and Alex Owens, Lindsey Owens Harris, Lindsey, Jessy, and Kelsey Limbaugh; and two great-grandchildren, Steve Alexander Owens, III and Ellie Catherine Harris. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Owens was predeceased by two brothers, Leland and J.B. Alexander; and two sisters, Mabel LeCroy and Ruth Alexander.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
