Emily S. Sherrill

Emily Semmes Sherrill, 87, passed away, Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Clemson Downs. She was the loving wife of Max D. Sherrill who passed away in 2012.
Emily was born in Pensacola, Florida, a daughter of the late Oliver John and Kate Greenwood Semmes. She was a 1949 graduate of Pensacola High School, attended Florida State University, and attended Clemson University in the 1980's. She was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church where she organized blood drives. She served the community as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the South Carolina Botanical Gardens, and as a Cuddler at the Greenville Memorial Hospital NICU.
Emily made friends easily and enjoyed their company in church activities, bowling leagues, bridge groups, and tennis. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilt maker.
Emily's twin brother, Richard Greenwood Semmes of Pensacola, Florida, passed away this past December.
Surviving are sons, Max Douglas Sherrill (Honoré) of Central, David Semmes Sherrill (Mary) of Westford, MA and Adam Thomas Sherrill (Ali) of Charleston; daughters, Margaret Sherrill Seo (Kaoru) of Long Beach, CA and Katy Sherrill Orr (Michael) of Central; brother, Oliver John Semmes III of Navarre, FL; sister Amante Semmes Carlquist of Annapolis, MD; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 AM, Monday, March 11, 2019 at St. Andrew Catholic Church.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Pickens County, 309 E. Cedar Rock Street, Pickens, SC 29671, the Building Fund of St. Andrew Catholic Church, 209 Sloan Street, Clemson, SC 29631 or to a charity of one's choice.
