Ernest James Brammer, 91, of Clemson, SC, passed away on April 15, 2026.
Ernie was born in New York City. On November 14th, 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Medical Corps as a Medic. His initial assignment was at the Hot Springs Army and Navy Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was subsequently reassigned to support a field hospital in Hawaii and later assigned to security at the Bachelor Officer Quarters (BOQ), where he remained until the conclusion of his active service. During his time in the military, Ernie seized opportunities for personal growth, completing various courses in specialties such as typing, diving, swimming, and ranger medic training. He as honorably discharged on October 19th, 1957, as a Private First-Class, and continued his military career in the reserves for an additional four years.
Following his military service, Ernie returned to the workforce in a printing company. With the benefit of prior work experience and the support of the GI Bill, he demonstrated remarkable determination by balancing full-time employment with night school for eleven years, ultimately earning a Master’s degree in Guidance and School Counseling. Subsequently, Ernie became a printing teacher in New York City, retiring after thirty-one years of dedicated service.
In addition to his teaching career, Ernie obtained his pilot’s license and achieved the rank of captain in the Civil Air Patrol in New Jersey. He also developed a keen interest in locksmithing, acquiring a locksmith license and certification in safe manipulation. After relocating to Clemson forty years ago, he was invited to serve as a guest lecturer at both Clemson university and Tri-County technical College. Ernie became president of the local Sertoma Club and Served as vice president of several printing guilds. He was a member of the Order of Elks for over sixty years.
While attending night school in New York, Ernie met the love of his life, Janet. They were married for sixty-one years until her passing in 2021. Together, they raised on daughter and are the proud grandparents of two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ernie is survived by daughter, Stacy Lowe; grandchildren, Katie Brianna Lowe, and Joshua Brock Lowe; great-grandchildren, Laura Rose, Hudson Forrest, Chloe Hannah, and Ivey Nichole.
In addition to his wife Janet, Ernie is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Hazel Brammer.
A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home starting at 12 pm.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Ernie may be made to the Tunnel for Towers Foundation.
