Eugene H. BishopClemson, SC Eugene Harlan Bishop of 109 Ashley Road, Clemson, went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2015. Born in Ellisville, MS, he was the son of the late Edward Harlan and Lois Pou Bishop. After completing his bachelor’s at Mississippi State University, he joined the US Navy. He then returned to University of Texas and completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering. He started out with General Electric, and then moved on to Mississippi State to fulfill his passion for education and teaching, serving as associate professor. His career took him to Montana State University as head of the Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering Department. Coming to Clemson University in 1974, he served as Chair of Mechanical Engineering for seven years, and served four years as Associate Dean for Instruction for the College of Engineering (two years as acting) and then returned to his students until his retirement in 1995. He was awarded the Alumni Master Teacher award in 1988, the Governor’s Distinguished Professor Award in 1989, the Alumni Professor award in 1993, and the Distinguished Engineering Fellow Award from Mississippi State in 2003. He had a patent for a cooling apparatus, along with many publications and journals in his field. As a member of the Athletic Council in the early 90’s, he played an integral role in influencing the way the Student Athlete Enrichment Center programs were organized and conducted. He was a generous man who loved his family dearly. He was an avid golfer and loved painting, traveling, fishing, walking and doing his daily crossword puzzles. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Clemson. He is survived by daughter Rebecca Lynn Wyatt (Bill) of Central, and son Michael Stockton Bishop (Janice) of Clemson; brother George Edward Bishop (Lucy) of Jackson, MS; grandchildren Amanda Wyatt Price (Brad), Will Wyatt, Josh Bishop (Meg), Sallie Bishop Shaw (Jon), Sean Bishop and McKenzie Bishop DeVita (Jonathan); great grandchildren Stockton, Haley, Adalynn, Catherine, Lydia and Logan. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Carol Ann Bishop; and son Eugene Harlan Bishop, Jr. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Clemson at 1PM on Tuesday, 12/15/15, with services to follow at 2PM.
