Eugenia "Gena" Lee Bryant McGowan, age 90, died Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenville, Gena was a daughter of the late Eugene and Harriet Pullen Bryant. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1953 and Randolph-Macon Women's College in 1957 where she was President of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. After teaching one year, Gena lived in Basel, Switzerland and participated in the Experiment in International Living program, which was followed by her receiving her Masters Degree in Education from USC. She was a teacher at Christ Church Episcopal School, having taught for 25 years. She was a devoted and active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she belonged to Circle 10.
Gena enjoyed spending time with her large extended family especially at the Bryant mountain home, Hob Nob.
Surviving are a son, Eugene Bryant McGowan (Alison) of Columbia; three grandchildren, Reed Hollingsworth McGowan, Harriet Stewart McGowan, and John Bryant McGowan; and a sister, Edith Bryant Smith of Greenville.
In addition to her parents, Gena was predeceased by a son, Franklin Pierce McGowan III and a brother, Wade Hampton Bryant (Mareon).
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 21, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the Abbott Gathering Space prior to the service from 12:30PM to 1:45 PM.
