Everett A. Putney

Rev. Dr. Everett Amos Putney, 93, of Central, SC, died on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. 

He was born in Lynn, Indiana, on February 10, 1930, to Amos Ira Putney and Pauline Billheimer Putney.  He married Ruth Long on August 9, 1948, in Greentown, Indiana.  After graduating from Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University) he pastored Wesleyan churches in Indiana and Florida and taught at Central Wesleyan College (now Southern Wesleyan University).  He also served as an associate pastor at New Horizon United Methodist Church in Cooper City, Florida, before his retirement from active ministry.  In addition to serving as a minister, he was also a teacher and middle school principal in central and south Florida and retired from the Broward County Public School system.  After the death of his wife in 2013, Everett made his permanent home in Central, SC, where he attended ALIVE Wesleyan Church and shared his love of music by singing in the Chapel Choir for 8 years. 

Surviving are children Dawn Newton of Central, Dr. Nathan Putney and wife Brenda of Appomattox, VA, and Deanna Tegen and husband Charles of Central; grandchildren Michael Putney, Stacie Newton, Dana Harvey and husband Lane, Matthew Tegen and wife Justine, Jason Tegen and wife Kelley, Jon Putney and wife Katie, and Travis Tegen and wife Erin; and great-grandchildren Reshma Tegen, Levi Tegen, Evan Harvey, Lerah Tegen, Emily Harvey, Joshua Everett Putney, Kathleen Tegen, Hannah Putney, Josephine Tegen, and Christopher Everett Tegen; a brother-in-law, David Long, Sr., of Greentown, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Everett was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Aurie Putney Higginbotham and Ed Higginbotham, and by his sister-in-law Mary Ann Long.

Services Saturday, November 11, 2023.  Visitation at 2:00 PM and Funeral at 3:00 PM at ALIVE Wesleyan Church.  Burial to follow at Mt Zion Cemetery.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
