Farrell Blenn Brown, husband to Ann, died on July 23, 2023. Farrell was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 29th, 1934, in Mt. Ulla, NC to the late William Blenn and Helen Karriker Brown.
Farrell graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a Bachelor’s in Chemistry followed by a Master’s and Doctorate in Physical Chemistry from The University of Tennessee in 1962. He was then awarded a Welch postdoctoral Fellowship at Texas A&M. In the Fall of 1963 Farrell began a 34-year career at Clemson University, beginning as Assistant Professor of Chemistry. While a faculty member, he was promoted to Full Professor and granted tenure. He was later promoted to Associate Dean of the Graduate School and remained there until his retirement in 1997 when he was granted Emeritus Faculty status.
Farrell loved golf, Bridge and landscaping and was a tireless volunteer at University Lutheran Church serving on the Church Council and many committees. He and Ann are the two longest tenured members of University Lutheran. He was a member of the Clemson Fellowship Club and a charter member of the Walker Course at Clemson University.
In addition to his college sweetheart and loving wife of 64 years, Farrell is survived by his daughter Sharon Brown Castro (Andrew) of Bluffton, SC, his son Russell Andrew Brown (Terry Lee) of Peachtree Corners, GA, granddaughters Ava and Ansley Castro, Anna Kate Brown, and grandson Luke LaBoa. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Brown Peeler of Mt. Ulla, NC and six nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Judith Brown McBride.
A private graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery at Clemson University at a later date. A celebration of Farrell’s life will be held at The Inn at Patrick Square on August 6th from 3:00 to 5:00PM. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers and as a friend to all dogs, especially his beloved Dachshunds, Farrell wished to give voice to the voiceless ones of God’s creations. Memorials can be made to the local Humane Society, ASPCA and Clemson Paw Partners.
Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home is assisting with the family.
