Florence Sanford Carey, 79, of Easley, SC, peacefully slipped out of this world and into her Heavenly home on Monday, June 17, 2024, with her family at her bedside.

Florence was born on January 16, 1945, in Westminster, South Carolina, to the late Thomas and Ida Ramey Sanford. For many years, she worked in textiles, then transitioned into home health, providing care for families throughout Pickens County. She was devoted to her family and loved spending time together with them, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping at the beach, flower gardening, feeding and watching birds in her back yard and baking delicious desserts for family and friends.

Florence married James Carey on February 5, 1961, and they shared 63 years together. In addition to her husband, James, she is survived by a daughter, Natalie Carey of Easley and a son, Ty Carey (Heather) of Easley; grandchildren, Jaymee Carey (Omari), Jessaca Blake (DJ), Jenna Carey, Luke West and Zeke West; great-grandchild, Nylah Peak; brother, Floyd Sanford, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carolyn Carey; sisters, Mary Peasley, Blondell Wilson, and Frances Owens; and brothers Jake Sanford, Nathan Sanford, Dewitt Sanford and Randall Sanford.

The Carey family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Elly McNeely, nurse at Open Arms Hospice, for her excellent and compassionate at-home care.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 930 North Old Pendleton Road, Liberty, SC 29657.

Funeral services will follow in the church sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. with burial at Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29641.

Flowers will be accepted and appreciated, or memorials can be made to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 West Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
