Floyd Edwin Ellison, 91, of 309 Lavonne Avenue, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at his home.
Born in Easley, Mr. Ellison was a son of the late Herbert Jefferson and Mary Eunice Wyatt Ellison.
He was owner and founder of Imperial Products. Following his retirement, he worked for Tinsley Chevrolet in Pickens and Ace Hardware in Easley. Mr. Ellison was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where he belonged to the Ministers Sunday School Class.
During World War II, Mr. Ellison was Assistant Fire Chief of Greenville Army Air Force Base (Donaldson Center). He served on Easley City Council for sixteen years and was Mayor Pro Tem. As an organizer of the Pickens County Municipal Association, Mr. Ellison served as its first secretary. He was a longtime volunteer of the Easley Fire Department and was a former board member of the Shriners Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Ellison was a member of Bates Masonic Lodge No. 189 A.F.M. for over 60 years where he served as Past Master and Past District Deputy Grand Master in the 16th District of the Grand Lodge. He participated in all areas of the Masonic and related orders including being a member and past Commander of Greenville Commandery #4 Knights Templar and Emminent Commander of the York Rite. He was a member of the Easley York Rite and Commandery and was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Ellison also belonged to the Royal Order of Jesters, and was a Major of the Hejaz Uniform Drill Patrol.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Brooks Young Ellison, of the home; one son, Dr. F.E. (Eddie) Ellison Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Greenville; two grandchildren, Megan Hickerson (David), and Stewart Ellison (Beverly); six great-grandchildren; Zachary, Brian, Ann Stewart and Clark Hickerson, and Mac and Luci Ellison.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Anderson Ellison; a brother, W. Roy Ellison; and a sister, Alverta Aleen Ellison Tinsley.
Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Monday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2:30 PM to 3:45 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
Escort of Honor will be the Ministers Sunday School Class and Volunteers of the Easley Fire Department.
