Frances C. Arrington

Frances Carwile Arrington, widow of Lewis Roberts Arrington, Sr., died Monday, October 13, 2014. Born in Edgefield, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Addison Brooks Carwile Sr. and Alice Callaham Carwile.

She graduated from Winthrop College in 1941 with degrees in business and music. While in college she was involved in music activities and was Baptist Student Union President. After graduation she spent a year studying at the Women's Missionary Union Training School in Louisville, KY.

From 1942 to 1945 she worked in the registrar's office at Clemson College and was active in Clemson Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, directed the youth choir, and served as substitute organist.

After marrying in 1945 she and her husband lived in Clemson for a few months, then moved to Gainesville, Florida where they lived until 1980. While in Gainesville she was active in the First Baptist Church, serving as Women's Missionary Union President, member of the adult choir, frequent soloist, children's choir director, Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She worked as a church secretary and was the director of English in Action, a program serving spouses of international students at the University of Florida.
Her community activities included membership in the University Women's Club and Gainesville Music Club. She also enjoyed hosting family, friends, and her husband's students and colleagues in their home.
Above all she treasured her family and thrived in her role as wife and mother.
She is survived by son Lewis R. Arrington, Jr. (fianc�e Lisa Rogers and daughter Summer) of Six Mile, Jane Arrington McKeown (Robert) of Brevard, N.C., and Nancy Arrington King (Tommy) of Greenville, sisters Mary Leila Carwile Andrews (Bob), Beth Carwile McLeod (Gene), sister-in-law Gloria Glymph Carwile, grandchildren Hannah Alice McKeown, Sarah Abigail McKeown, Andrew Lewis King, Elaine Frances Arrington, step- grandchildren Suzanne King Kolb (Charlie), Trevor Martin King (Ashley), Casey Elizabeth King, step ?great- grandchildren Karis Haley King, and Trace Martin King.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday October 17, 2014 at Clemson First Baptist Church.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church.

The family extends deep appreciation to the staff of Clemson Downs Health Care Center for their care, comfort, and support over the past three years, and to Patriot Health Care for their kind hospice care.
