Frances (Fran) Owen Brawley, 72, of 105 Lakeview Circle and wife of Dr. Joel V. Brawley, died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at her residence.

Born in Lincolnton, NC, she was a daughter of the late Albert J. Owen Jr. and Flonnie Hand Owen.

Fran was a recipient of a "Life Membership" pin for the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church for 45 years where she served on numerous committees and was active with the chancel choir and the Shepherd/Lamb program. She served as president of the Clemson University Newcomer's Club, served the University Woman's Club in various capacities and was recently named the 2009 Clemson Tiger Brotherhood Mother-of-the-Year.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Dr. Albert Vincent Brawley and wife Anna of Augusta, GA and Daniel Owen Brawley and wife Elizabeth of Greenville; a daughter, Frances Ann Brawley Barnes and husband, Joey of Greenville; six grandchildren, Leanna Brawley Dyches and husband, Matthew, Harrison Vincent Brawley, Thomas James (T.J.) Brawley, Kathryn Perry Brawley, Tiffany Ann Barnes and Mary Fran Barnes; two great-granddaughters, Anna Kate and Emily Owen Dyches; and one sister, Patricia Townsend of Raleigh, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, A. James Owen III.

A Celebration of the Life of Frances Owen Brawley will be held at 5 PM, Wednesday at Clemson United Methodist Church with Revs. Lane Glaze and Pat Kelley officiating.

There will be a reception of friends following the service at the church.
