Frances Brazzell
- Easley

Mrs. Frances M. Brazzell, 93, of Easley, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 after several years of declining health. She was married to Cleatus O. Brazzell for fifty three years until his death in 1992. She was born and reared in Easley and was the daughter of the late J.C. and Daisy McCravy.

After graduating from Easley High School, where she played basketball and ran track hurdles, she attended Draughn's Business College and went to work in Columbia, SC., where she met and married Mr. Brazzell. Mrs. Brazzell was a member of Easley First United Methodist Church having joined when it was known as Mt. Olivet Methodist Church. She served and taught Sunday School in the children and youth departments. She was also a member of the Wesley Sunday School Class. She especially enjoyed being a member of her community Rose Garden Club where neighbors gathered to share gardening ideas but also enjoyed catching up on each other's lives. Mrs. Brazzell also worked with her husband at WELP Radio Station as a bookkeeper beginning in the early 1950's until it was sold in the late 1980's.

She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed her family and was a favorite babysitter for the grandchildren. Mrs. Brazzell loved the outdoors. Some of her happiest times were spent while she worked in her yard and garden. She especially enjoyed talking with neighbors who would stop by to chat while she worked in her yard. She always told her son-in-law that she would be happy if she could die working in her garden when he would ask her why she worked in the heat of the day.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Capers McCravy and sister, Barbara Mason. She is survived by her children, Capers Brazzell of Sandersville, GA. and Kathy (Joe) Burgess of Easley; grandchildren, Jabo (Angie) Burgess, Kathy Ann (Roger) Crowe, Jab (Ashley) Burgess, Rocky Brazzell, Curry Nicolini and Cam Brazzell. Great-grandchildren are Tucker and Connor Burgess, Wylie and Bailey Crowe and Croix Nicolini as well as two nieces, Bonnie McClean and Merrie Bowman, and a nephew, Arthur Butt, Jr. She is also survived by her "second daughter" Nancy (Ken) Owens. In the last few years of her life Mrs. Brazzell was cared for by special friends and her very own angels: Odessa Orr, Elizabeth Nix, Edna Hardin, Elaine Nix, Willie Grace Dunn, Pat Downing and Marilyn Elrod. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Providence Care Hospice for their care for Mrs. Brazzell and her family.

Funeral services will be held at Easley First United Methodist Church Thursday, September 29, at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church fellowship hall from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Ministers will be Reverend Jim Correll and Reverend Richard Burgess.

Pallbearers will be Cam Brazzell, Jab Burgess, Tucker Burgess, Hal Looper, Rocky Brazzell, Bobby Shore and Tim Todd.

Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Easley First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 582, Easley, SC 29641 or Providence Care Hospice, 202 Wall Street, Piedmont, SC 29673, or to a charity of one's choice.
