Frances P. Byars

Frances Peebles Byars, 92, of Easley, died Friday, September 17, 2010, at her home.
Born in Lucknow in Lee County, Mrs. Byars was a daughter of the late Edward Fulton and Lillie Mae Hall Peebles. She was an honors graduate of Epworth High School. The South Carolina Woman's Club awarded her a four-year Scholarship to Limestone College, where she graduated in 1940. At graduation she received the Stackhouse Medal, and later she was honored in the summer of 2009 by Limestone College.
Her additional awards included the Silver Crescent Award, the Rotary International Paul Harris Award, the 1999 Pickens County YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award, 2001 Easley Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Leaders of the Year (along with her husband, Carl) and Who's Who of American Universities and Colleges.
Mrs. Byars was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Byars was active in the Baptist Easley Hospital Foundation, the Yellow Jessamine Garden Club, Easley Woman's Club, Greenville Woman's Club, Friends of the Library, Red Owens Sports Complex, Shine Soup Kitchen, Tuesday Morning Bridge Club, the Easley Book Club, and she was a charter member of the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth G. Byars, Sr. (Harriet) and David H. Byars (Liza); a brother, Jerry Peebles (Jean); a daughter-in-law, Lovell Byars; six grandchildren; Paige Bates (Wynn), Amelia Shortall (Mark), Kenneth G. Byars, Jr. (Juli), Richard C. Byars (fiancee', Brittany Lindler), Briggs Jordan (Asa Blix), and Charles D. Byars; three great-granddaughters, Alexandria Bates, Abby Bates, and Sophia Shortall; a niece, Katherine Lee; and her wonderful and loving caregivers with a special thank you to Betty Fisher. Mrs. Byars was predeceased by her husband, R. Carl Byars; her son, Richard P. Byars; and two brothers, Roy and Bill Peebles.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday at the First United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM Monday in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church.
