Frances Morris Elrod, 101, widow of Henry Stokes Elrod, died Sunday, April 15, 2012, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Mrs. Elrod was born in Newberry on September 18, 1910, a daughter of the late John Thaddeus Morris and Lucinda Ward Bauknight Morris.
Prior to marriage, she was employed at Oakland Mill in Newberry. She and her husband lived in a number of locations settling in Central, SC. In her later years, Mrs. Elrod returned to Newberry. She was a former member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Newberry and is currently a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Clemson.
She is survived by her neices, Doris Howze of Kings Mountain, NC, Patsy Mays and Ruth Ann Reece of Newberry, Rebecca Floor of Easley and Barbara H. Temples of Greenville; nephew, David Morris Singley of Clinton, SC; and numerous great neices and great nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Louise M. Singley, Estelle M. Kinard, Lena Bl Montgomery, Nora M. Davis, Ethel M. Thompson, John and James Morris, Claude Bauknight and infant brother William Morris.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Richard Goldie.
Memorials are suggested to Ebenezer United Methodist or to O'Neal Street United Methodist Church, both to be sent to P.O. Box 5, Newberry, SC 29108.
