Frances Adcox Roper Alewine Markett, 83, formerly of Blair Street, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Grace Health Care in Asheville, NC.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Luther McKinley and Ruth Sheriff Adcox, Mrs. Markett was the former owner of Alewine Florist and retired from E.C.P. Textiles in Easley. She was a member of the Pickens County Chapter of the Federation of the Blind and was also a member of the Easley Senior Citizens Center.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan Kirk and husband, Al, and Sheilta Jean Little and husband, Rev. Robbie Little, all of Pickens; three sisters, Helen Gillespie and Peggy Holliday (Preston), all of Easley, and Wynona Dunn (Ray) of Marietta; two step-sons, Melvin Alewine and Dean Alewine, both of Arizona; a step-daughter, Debra Joan Alewine Helms of Arizona; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Markett was predeceased by a son, Rod R. Roper, a daughter, Gloria Roper, her first husband, Hardy F. Roper, her second husband, Lawrence Alewine, her third husband, Robert Markett, a sister, Jean Hill and a brother, Luther M. Adcox, Jr.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Robbie Little officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Rices Creek Baptist Church, 504 Rices Creek Road, Liberty, SC 29657.

Family members are at their respective homes.
