Fred T. Merck

November 3, 1930 — May 2, 2021

Fred Thomas Merck, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2021. He was born in Six Mile November 3, 1930, a son of Jule and Corrie Mitchell Merck.

Fred was a brick mason. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Duke Power with 25 years of service. Fred loved all animals, something he was able to instill in each of his children. Fred had a wonderful sense of humor and laughed every day. He has a zest for life and believed in working hard. He loved to farm and would take the neighbors vegetables (especially the single ladies). He enjoyed hunting and running his dogs.

Fred is survived by a son, Rick Powers (Jeannie) of Seneca; three daughters, Denise Jacobs (Terry) of Dumfries, VA, Renee Taylor of Central, and Freda Lynn Merck (James McCall) of Central; one sister, Imogene Head (John) of Central; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Lesley Merck; his second wife, Lucy Collins Merck; and five brothers, Leroy, Clarence, Austin, Mitchell, and Claude Merck; and three sisters, Eva Leanier, Geneva Gossett, Helen Ashe; and dear friend, Ruth Boggs.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 8th in the Chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Rd., Central. Covid-19 protocols will be observed. Please wear a mask. Scroll to the video player below to view the service.

Interment will follow at Memory Gardens, Clemson.
