Furman Wayne Simmons

Furman Wayne Simmons, 78, formerly of the Dacusville Community, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Center.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Furman Oscar and Clara Trotter Simmons, Mr. Simmons retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Griffin Baptist Church in Pickens, and belonged to the Air Force Sergeants Association.

Surviving are two brothers, Curtis Simmons and wife, Helen, of Union, and Harold "Hal" Simmons and wife, Jo, of Greenville; five sisters, Edith Raines, Margaret Holder, Collene McAlister and husband Charles, all of Easley, Carol Plumblee and husband, Bennett, of Travelers Rest, and Jean Cox and husband, Jimmy, of Taylors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was predeceased by a sister, Lois McRee.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. James Ellenburg officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Activity Fund of Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Center, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621.

Family members are at their respective homes.
