Garrison Leon “Gary” Smith, 78, of Seneca, husband to Norma Jane McGee Smith, passed away November 14, 2025.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Mac Smith and Vera Melwee Smith. Gary served his country proudly in the United States Army, then continued his service locally as a law enforcement officer in Pickens County. He was a skilled artist, particularly in Native American artwork, woodwork, beadwork, leatherwork, and had a passion for music. Gary is a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post 124, and he was a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jane McGee Smith; son, Sean Smith of Seneca; granddaughter, Bethany Rogers-Smith. Gary is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Gary is predeceased by his parents and siblings, Annie Ruth Whitaker, Laura Mae “Mena” Traynum, Dewitt Smith, Margaret Ann Miller, Grace Towe, and Harold Smith.

A memorial mass will held at a later date at St. Andrew Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Labre Indian School, 112 St. Labre Way Campus Drive, Ashland, MT 59003.
