Gary A. Harris, Sr.
Easley, SC
Gary Atkinson Harris, Sr., 77, of Easley, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 31, 2020.
Born in Easley, he was the son of the late Marion and Gertrude Atkinson Harris.
Mr. Harris graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a Certified Public Accountant. He was a past member of the BB&T Club and Lions Club. He served as treasurer for the Frances Asbury Society and the Wesleyan District Camp. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and an avid University of South Carolina Gamecock fan. He enjoyed jogging, traveling, especially to Cades Cove, and spending time in the mountains of Pigeon Forge. Mr. Harris was also a US Air Force veteran.
There are a lot of things we will miss about Gary.
We will miss the tales of amazing experiences like vacations where you get shingles or how to properly fall when riding a Harley.
We will miss stories about jogging, training and trash talk with your brother Don as you prepared to compete at the Chicago marathon. True, Gary was the one who trained and completed the race, but we all know who really won.
We will miss you saying grace at family dinners and the way you always remembered all of the family, including the ones who were not there anymore.
We will miss your true friendship as a brilliant CPA. This is where you really showed your love for the clients, who you also considered family. You took the time to talk with us and shared your amazing sense of humor (every single month of the year, except April).
We will miss your unstoppable optimism as you faithfully made the trek to Williams Brice Stadium to support your beloved Gamecocks, even in the lean years.
Sure, we will miss all of these things.
But the one thing we will miss most is you: a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, an uncle, and a friend.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Shoemaker Harris; his children, Gary A. Harris, Jr. (Kristi) of Liberty and Cary Harris Medlin (Joe) of Greer; grandchildren, Brady Harris, Chase Harris, Camden Harris and Jackson Medlin; and sisters, Sylvia Massingill of Easley and Martha McKie of Rock Hill, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer Dawn Harris; a sister, Joyce Hall; and a brother, Don Harris.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary. The burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The funeral service will be streamed live at https://livestream.com/rockspringsbaptist/funerals
