Gayle Cook Brooks, wife of J. Jack Brooks, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was 73.
Gayle was born in Waynesville, North Carolina, to the late Dillard and Novella Simpson Cook. Surviving in addition to her husband of 53 years are her children, Chad (Kandy) Brooks, Christin (David) Garrett, Matthew (Kristy) Brooks; and most importantly her beloved grandsons, Brennan Brooks and Jackson Garrett. She is also survived by a brother, Jim McDaniels of Glen Alpine, North Carolina. Gayle was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Lee Cook of Asheville, North Carolina.
She enjoyed a long career as a local Barber up until her retirement. She was co-owner of The Haircutting Establishment for many years. Gayle was also honored to be the first female to serve as Chairperson of the Barber Board for the State of South Carolina after her appointment to that position by former Governor Richard Riley.
Gayle was a long time, faithful member of Easley First Baptist Church where she served her God with her passion by being a member of the choir which she adored. She also taught Sunday School for the Don Jones Sunday School class.
A memorial service to celebrate Gayle's life will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at 3:00 pm at Easley First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Easley First Baptist Church for "Generations to Come".
