Brenda Gayle Marcus McDowell, 72, formerly of Easley, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025, in Hartsville, SC.

Born in Pickens, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Lela Christine Coley Marcus.

Gayle, while living in Easley, attended Golden Creek Baptist Church in Liberty and was employed with McDonalds. She enjoyed watching her favorite old TV shows, reading her bible and playing Candy Crush.

Surviving are her sons, Douglas Allen Whitaker (Tonya) of Liberty and Joseph Thomas Whitaker (Siony) of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Brandon Campbell, Jesse Campbell, Kayla Strickland, and Katrina Reynolds; several great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles Marcus of Easley and Dickey Marcus of Anderson.

In addition to her parents, Gayle was predeceased by a daughter, Christy Turner; grandson, Cortland Whitaker; sisters, Lisa Leopard and Ollie Moore; and brothers, Horace, Luther and George Marcus.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 2, 2026, from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Easley.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorials be made to Golden Creek Baptist Church, 477 Golden Creek Road, Liberty, SC 29657.
