Gordon Eugene "Gene" Culver, 82, husband of Arlene F. Culver, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Lora Culver Veal and Gordon Culver.

Born in Miami, FL on March 19, 1927, Gene attended the University of Miami. He served as a Fireman First Class on the USS Cowpens in the US Navy during World War II, and was present in Tokyo Bay at the time of the signing of the Japanese Surrender. He was a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. Gene continued to remain active as a professional salesman and real estate broker until his death. He was an avid deep sea fisherman. He enjoyed traveling to Egypt, Vietnam, Russia, China, Turkey, Borneo, Europe, South America, and other foreign locales.

In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by sons, Robert Culver and wife Susan, John Culver; daughters, Joan Johnson and husband John, Lorrie Sineath and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Lindsey Buoyer, Megan and Graham Culver, Tyler Sineath, all of Greensboro, NC; and a brother, Conrad Culver and wife Pat, of Cumming, GA.

Gene was an inspiration to many in the recovering community for over 27 years.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 PM until 3 PM at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro, NC at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haven of Rest Ministries; 219 W. Whitner Street; Anderson, SC 29624 or to the charity of one's choice.
