Gene I. Murrell, a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, uncle, and a dear friend to many passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at the age of 87 at Oakview Park. He was born on August 6, 1937, in Charleston County, SC, to the late James Henry and Margie Fort Murrell. Gene spent his life dedicated to God, his family, and career. He considered his family as his legacy.

His surviving children are Tim Murrell (Sally), Tab Murrell (Jennie), Jan Thorp (Ken), Leigh Moyer, and Gena Garrett (Scott) all of Easley; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren with two more on the way; his two brothers, Gordon and Ted Murrell; his sister, Elma Teat; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Whitlock Murrell; his second wife, Mildred Patterson Murrell; and two brothers, Marion Murrell and James Murrell.

Gene was one of the founders of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Easley, SC. Many years later he became a member of Georges Creek Baptist Church in Easley, SC. He served both churches in many ways.

While working at Platt Saco Lowell, Gene attending Greenville Technical College. He retired from this employment after 29 and a half years of service. He was also a business owner of The Huddle in Easley, SC, and Floyd’s Bolt and Screw, Inc., in Greenville, SC.

Gene was proud to have been a Master Mason for 58 years. He enjoyed any outdoor activity: hunting, fishing, gardening, yard work, etc. His special time was spending time with the family at the lake.

A visitation will be held at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

A service to celebrate Gene’s life will be at the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley, SC.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Abundant Life Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be sent to Georges Creek Baptist Church at 1991 Saluda Dam Road, Easley, SC 29640 or georgescreekbaptist.org or call the church for donations at (864) 859-6789.

The family will be at the home of Gene Murrell.
