Geneieve Ismay Rodrigues

Geneieve Ismay “Joan” Rodrigues, 95, of Easley, South Carolina, beloved wife of the late David Eugene Rodrigues, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Born on April 1, 1930, in Pembroke Parish, Bermuda, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Luvenia Smith.

Geneieve was an active member of Evening Light Pentecostal Church in Pembroke Parish, and a graduate of the West Indian School of Theology in Trinidad, where she also served as dean of women for several years.

After marrying David in 1979, she moved to Hillburn, NY, where she was active in teaching, preaching, worship leading, hospitality, and evangelism at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, alongside her husband.

Since retiring to Easley, SC in 2000, Geneieve has been a member of New Image Church. In 2013 the church honored Geneieve and her husband with the New Image Award which was given annually to the person or couple who best reflected the purpose and vision of the church. Geneieve and David “needed little but gave much,” their former pastor, Rev. Eric Branch, said.

Geneieve was a bold Christian known for her strong faith, intercessory prayer life, eagerness to serve, and as someone who wasn’t “afraid to tell it like it is.”

Geneieve is survived by her nieces, Esther Holland, Ellen Smith, Olita Smith, Gerilyn Smith, and Maudjean Pace; Nephews, Leon Johnston, Winfield Smith, and Ferdnand Smith; Niece, Cheryl Williams (Eben), and their daughters Abigail and Naomi; many caring nieces and nephews; God-daughter Sonya Lapsley; and beloved family friends, Paul Thompson (Carol), Mary Thompson, and Martha Bagley.

Geneieve is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, David E. Rodrigues; two brothers, Johnny Smith, Jr. and Edward Smith;  and two sisters, Sarah Smith and Adelaide E. Pitt.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road, Easley, South Carolina. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. until 12:45 P.M. Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road.
