George Henry Bonnette, 97, formerly of Greenwood and Clemson, died Monday, February 8, 2016 in Summerton.
 
Born in Orangeburg County, he was the son of the late Jacob McMillan and Maude Elvira Radcliffe Bonnette.  He earned a diploma in Music Education from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Clemson College in 1941.  He was a Captain in the USArmy where he served with the 31st Signal Battalion (heavy construction) deployed to Central Burma during WWII.  He was promoted to Lt. Colonel, US Army Reserve in 1961.   While a resident of Clemson, George and his first wife Sara Lee Cox Bonnette were longtime members of First Baptist Church of Clemson.  He was appointed as Extension Economist with the USDA Clemson Extension Service in 1947 and was promoted to Business Manager/Assistant to Director for USDA Clemson Extension Service in 1948.  He also was a member of a number on investment clubs in Clemson and was an original member of the Clemson Downs Development Board.
 
After the death of his wife Sara he married Elizabeth Ann Faulkner and moved to Greenwood, SC. He was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church.  He and Ann later moved to Summerton, SC.
 
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Nancy (William) Holladay of Greenwood and Jennie R. (Tommy "Bubba") Bolger of Summerton, SC; daughter-in-law, Derhonda L. Bonnette of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Amy Bonnette (Michael) Pavlini,  Abby Brown, Hope Holladay ,Scott Holladay and great grandchildren, John Mason Pavlini, Taylor Brown, Chandler and Savannah Holladay and Will Pitivino.

In addition to his first wife Sara and parents, he was predeceased by children, Barbara Ann Bonnette and John Douglass Bonnette; sisters, Eugenia Truett and Dehra Monroe.
 
Graveside services will be 2 PM, Friday in Old Stone Church Cemetery, Clemson, SC with Rev. David Corbett officiating.
 
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Clemson University Marching Band.
