George William Clement, a beloved husband, dedicated family man, esteemed businessman, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026. Born on April 17, 1938, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late James McDavid Clement and Nell Clement, George’s life was marked by an unwavering drive, a generous heart, and a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met.
George was proud to have served four years in the United States Air Force, a period of his life he always remembered with honor and respect. After his military service, George embarked on a thriving career in radio broadcasting, beginning at WESC, where he was affectionately known as "Cousin George." His talent for sales was unmatched, consistently leading in advertising sales. However, his entrepreneurial spirit urged him to venture further. Alongside his wife, Faye, George purchased WAHT AM in 1989, where he brought the golden tunes of oldies to the airwaves and ignited his passion for broadcasting.
Not content to stop there, George founded WCCP Radio, Clemson’s first FM radio station, through which he not only broadcast local sports but also played a vital role in launching the careers of many notable sportscasters. His contributions to the world of radio and sports broadcasting left an indelible mark on the region.
Outside of his professional life, George was deeply committed to his community and countless causes. For over 26 years, he served as a high school football official, dedicating himself to nurturing young athletes across the Upstate. He was a respected 32nd-degree Mason in both the York and Scottish Rites and served as Potentate of the Shriners in 1991. George’s leadership and dedication to service embodied his belief that helping others was a true calling.
Known for his warm personality and infectious humor, George was a huge jokester with a penchant for long stories that brought laughter and light to those around him. He never met a stranger and was famous for the loving hugs he freely gave. Despite his status as a businessman in his community, he remained remarkably humble and approachable, a man driven by ambition but grounded in kindness.
George’s greatest joy was his family. He shared an extraordinary 69 years of marriage with his beautiful wife, Faye, a love story that began in their youth when fate placed Faye’s family along his paper route in high school. Together, they built a wonderful family, and George was a wise and loving source of support for his children, proud of the legacy they continue to uphold.
George is survived by his wife, Faye Clement; his children, Barry Clement (Lisa) and Pamela Kleier (Charley); his grandchildren, Blain Clement (Stephanie), Trey Crowe, Zack Clement, Seth Clement (Stephanie Durham), Josh Hudson, Deanna Clement; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frankie Clement.
He is preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and a grandson, Kyle A. Crowe.
