George DeHoff, Colonel, US Army Reserve (Ret), 95, died peacefully the morning of January 11, 2019 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC. He was a proud member of the "Greatest Generation"; one of the few surviving veterans of World War II, where he served in the Army Infantry. George was awarded a Purple Heart for combat injuries received following the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war he remained in the Reserves, earning his commission and retiring at the grade of Colonel.
George was born in Baltimore, MD. Upon his return from the war, George attended Johns Hopkins University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1948 and Master of Science in 1950. He then spent 36 years working as a Plastics Engineer for DuPont in Wilmington, DE and Parkersburg, WV. Col. DeHoff had resided in Parkersburg, WV for 42 years prior to moving to Central, SC in 2018.
We celebrate his long life and the legacy he leaves behind.
George was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Harriett, who was the love of his life; and two sisters. He is survived by a daughter, Laura, and two sons, G. Randall and Bryan, and their spouses; four grandsons; nine granddaughters; and seven great grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was traveling to see them, as they are scattered across the country.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 26 in the Chapel of the Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central. The family will receive guests immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice of the Foothills through the GHS Hospital Foundation, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672.
