George “Ed” Blackwelder, Sr., 81, of Simpsonville, SC went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. He was greeted by his wife of 60 years, Minnie Smith Blackwelder; parents, John Blackwelder, Sr. and Catherine Crawford Blackwelder and brothers, John Blackwelder, Jr. and Horace Blackwelder.
Born in Savannah, GA, George began his career as a draftsman for the county. After years in various sales roles, he ended his career as the owner of IHS Security. He also became a licensed pastor and served the residents of a nursing facility for 10 years. George was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Greer, SC where he was active in men’s bible studies.
He is survived by his children, Alicia Emory (Ken) of Powdersville and Eddie Blackwelder of Easley; three grandsons, Joshua Blackwelder, David Emory and Lucas Stage; a great-granddaughter, Sylvia Hickox and sister, Nora Futrell.
The family would like to thank Lee, Christina, and Moses of Compassus Hospice who so kindly took care of our dad and brother. They became like family over the past few weeks, and we will never forget the compassion that was shown during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 7:00 PM at Cross Roads Baptist Church, 705 Anderson Ridge Rd, Greer, SC 29651. The family will receive friends following the service.
