George Jefferson Fowler

George Jefferson Fowler, 91, husband of Hazel Craig Fowler, died Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca. A native of Oconee County he was the son of the late F. V. and Estelle Smith Fowler.

He was a member of the Central First Baptist Church and had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was a charter member of the Central Lions Club and had served on the Central Town Council and served as Mayor Pro-Tem. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. In the 1940s and 1950s he played textile league baseball and sang with a gospel quartet, the Jubilaires. He was retired from Cannon Mills. He also served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Reba Thompson (Stanley) of Central; brother, Grady Fowler (Carolyn) of Easley, grandchildren Lynn Rodriquez (William) of Easley and Beth Plumblee (Tommy) of Clemson and great grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Laney and Tyler. He was predeceased by son, Donnie Fowler, brother, Roy Fowler and sisters, Ruby Finley, Lucy Addis and Louise Bates.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm Wednesday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3pm Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
