George Jakovich, 85, of Easley, SC, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished “Papou,” passed away on June 8, 2026. Born on September 2, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Milan and Sarah Munis Jakovich, George’s life was marked by hard work, deep love for family, and a passion for life's simple joys.
Growing up, George attended Ohio State and Dyke College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting. George also played baseball for Ohio State during his tenure there. His commitment to education laid the foundation for a remarkable career spanning over 40 years as a dairy manager. His work in the dairy industry took him and his family to many states, enriching their lives with travel and new experiences. After retiring from the dairy business, George embraced a new chapter as a licensed life insurance agent, a role he found rewarding and fulfilling.
George’s proudest accomplishment was the lifelong love story he shared with his wife, Doreen. Their romance began in childhood at church and blossomed into a remarkable partnership. Despite working hard in college, George promised Doreen he would come home every weekend. Undeterred by the 3-hour drive each way, he kept that promise, and their love endured. Together, they built 62 happy years of marriage, raising a daughter and welcoming grandchildren, whose lives they profoundly touched.
George was a man of many interests who loved sports, especially golf and Ohio State football. The beach held a special place in his heart; he found peace in walking along the shore and comfort in relaxing by the pool afterward. Yet above all, George treasured time spent with his family. He was particularly fond of his sweet granddaughter, Samantha, with whom he shared a special bond.
George is survived by his wife, Doreen Jakovich; his daughter, Lynda Sturgill (James); his granddaughter, Samantha Sturgill; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Milan and Sarah Munis Jakovich; a grandson, Christopher Sturgill; and his siblings Robert Jakovich (MaryAnn) and Dorothy McKay (Dewey).
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on, June 17, 2026, in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. Entombment will follow the service at the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM on Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
He leaves behind a legacy defined by love, dedication, and the warmth he brought to every moment with those he cherished. George Jakovich’s life story is a testament to the power of enduring love, the joy of family, and a heart devoted to those around him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew him.
