George Leslie "Les" Jones, 71, husband of Jane Mahaffey Jones, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 surrounded by close friends and sons at Lake Jocasse.
Les was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, a son of Sadie Attaway Jones of Clemson and the late George Carlisle Jones. Les was a 1966 graduate of Daniel High School and attended Clemson University where he was a member of the Deacs Fraternity. He worked for over 33 years and retired as Associate Athletic Director for Capital Improvements at Clemson University. He was a member of Tiger Brotherhood and the Seneca Elk's Lodge. Les was an Eagle Scout and was a mentor that led many from Central Troop 278 to achieve this rare honor. He loved fishing, hunting and boating.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are sons, George Carlisle Jones, II and wife Katherine of Clemson and Blakely Calvert Jones of Seneca; sister, Lynne Griffin and husband, Randy of Six Mile; brother-in-law, Murphy R. Mahaffey and wife, June of Clemson.
Graveside service will be 3 PM, Tuesday at Woodland Cemetery on the campus of Clemson University with Rev. Jonathan Harris officiating. There will be a reception of friends and family following the service in the South Club Section of Memorial Stadium.
