George Walton Lewis, 82, of Easley, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Easley Baptist Hospital, surrounded by the love and presence of his family.
Born on December 5, 1942, in Elberton, Georgia, George lived a life rooted in faith, family, and community. A devoted member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, he lived his values daily through kindness, generosity, and a gentle spirit that endeared him to everyone he met.
George shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Jo Ann Smith Lewis. Together, they built a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his children: son Greg Lewis (April) and daughter Tanya Ouzts (Bill); granddaughters Casey Graves (Rex), Amanda Wilson (Wayne), Carrie Owens (Bradley), and Andrea Beeco (Chris); and twelve great-grandchildren who he absolutely adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lois Lewis of Hartwell, GA; his brother Gene Lewis; his grandson Bradley Ouzts and his great-grandson Calloway Beeco.
George had a deep love for classic cars, especially '55 and '57 Chevrolet Bel Airs. His passion for automobiles led him to proudly operate George Lewis Auto Sales in Easley for many years, where he forged lasting friendships and served his community with pride.
He honorably served for seven years in the Army Reserve and was a Lifetime Member of the Sam Poe Lodge No. 284 – Ancient Free Masons of South Carolina, a testament to his dedication and service to others.
A funeral service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 3:00 P.M., in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM in the mausoleum. The family is at the home.
George’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His warm smile, his stories, and the love he poured into his family will be cherished forever.
