George Ralph Marett, Jr.

George Ralph Marett, Jr., 72, loving and devoted husband of Jeannette "Jeanne" Johnson Marett, of Pumpkintown, SC, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024.

Born in Rock Hill, SC, he was a son of the late Betty Austell and George Ralph Marett, Sr.

Ralph received his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University and was a civil engineer for FN Thompson, a Charlotte-based general contractor. He worked on projects such as the old Charlotte Coliseum, and others around the Carolinas as project manager and project engineer.

He lived in Iran prior to the Iranian Revolution and was instrumental in the safe departure of hundreds of people from Iran in 1973.

Ralph also had an interest in theatre. He became involved in theatre beginning in high school in Charlotte and later with the Clemson Players while a student in Clemson. This is where he and Jeanne first met. He continued working onstage and in technical theatre with Centre Stage in Greenville, SC. He was also a talented writer.

In addition to his loving wife of 13 years, Ralph is survived by a sister-in-law, Pam Marett; nieces, Ellen Ratliff and Julia Marett; and two stepsons, Mario and Angelo Donato, from his previous marriage.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Marett; and his sister, Betsy Marett.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
