Colonel George David Phillips (Ret. USAF) 67, of 100 Mary Ann Street and 419 Aruba Court, Satellite Beach, Florida, passed away Wednesday July 7, 2010 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Phillips was born in Easley, SC, a son of Eunice Holliday Phillips Gant, of Easley, SC and the late George Hill Phillips. He was a member of the 1965 graduating class of Clemson University and earned a Master of Business Degree from the University of Arkansas.He ended a 28 year career n the Air Force in 1991 and started an 18 year career with NASA and was Director of NASA - Air Force Management Office. He was involved with the shuttle program for 31 years. He was a member of the Civilian Military Council in Brevard County, Florida and was President of the Space Coast IPTAY. He was a proud Republican and supported the local Tea Party Movement. Mr. Phillips was a member of Park Street Baptist Church in Easley, SC and attended Satellite Beach United Methodist Church in Satellite Beach, Florida.
Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife, Catherine "Nicki" Owens Phillips, of the home ; two sons, Eric Neil Phillips, of Satellite Beach, Florida and Gary Alan Phillips (Amanda), of Easley, SC ; two grandchildren, Mecca Murphy and Caleb Murphy, both of Easley, SC ; a brother, Randall Phillips (Claudette), of Greenwood, SC ; and a sister, Donna Snyder (Stan), of Powdersville, SC. and two nieces, DeLana Kendrick and Heather Phillips.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown, with the Reverend Dr. Alton Nix and the Reverend Barry Cannon officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Members of the Easley High School ROTC are invited to serve as honorary escort for the funeral service.
