George B. Pullen

George Brock Pullen, 84, of 205 Wren Street, died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson.
Born January 10, 1925 in Charleston, WV, he was a son of the late Rev. Oden M. Pullen, Sr. and Anna Brock Pullen. He was a Veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. Mr. Pullen obtained a BS degree in chemical engineering from West Virginia University and worked for many years as an engineer for various chemical companies in South Charleston, WV, Sumter, SC, Kingstree, SC, and Greensboro, NC before joining the faculty in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Clemson University where he retired in 1993. Mr. Pullen was active in many civic organizations over the years, including the Rotary Club and the Williamsburg County Library Board. He was active as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for many years and was an avid outdoorsman. He was an active member of Pendleton United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School for many years at Humphreys Methodist Church in Charleston, WV.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Anna Lee Hopkins Pullen of the home; four children, Dr. Mark Pullen and wife Cheryl of Fairfax, VA, Dr. Sharon Turner and husband A.W. of Versailles, KY, Mr. David Pullen and wife Bettye of North Augusta, SC, Mr. Bruce Pullen and wife Elaine of Dickinson, TX; a sister, Mary Pullen of Charleston, WV; a brother, Dr. Paul Pullen and wife Connie of Salem, VA; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Rev. Oden M. Pullen, Jr., Mr. Joe W. Pullen; and a sister, Elizabeth Pullen Engle.
A memorial service will be 4 PM Wednesday in Pendleton United Methodist Church with Reverend Ben Barnette officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 PM until 8 PM in the Parlor of Pendleton United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of Pendleton United Methodist Church; PO Box 646; Pendleton, SC 29670.
