Dr. George B. Savitsky
Clemson, SC
Dr. George Boris Savitsky, aged 86, died peacefully on March 18, 2011.
George was a Full Professor of Chemistry at Clemson University until he retired in 1990. He won the deep respect of his peers and was greatly admired by many of his graduate students. After his retirement, George began a deeper pursuit of metaphysics. He was very fond of cooking for his close friends and philosophizing. He had learned seven languages during his life, and during his last years, he "brushed up" on German, so that he could fully enjoy German opera. George also had a passion for ferns, reciting his poetry, and telling stories of his childhood in China and of his travels to the Philippines, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic.
George is survived by his sons Mark (Six Mile, SC) and Basil (Asheville, NC) and his granddaughters Ava, Lily, and Isabella.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Lucy and his daughter Olga.
At George??s specific request, there will not be a memorial service, but rather a celebration of life.
