David George Simpson, Sr., 69, of 364 Lacustrian Lane, died Monday, July 13, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Simpson was a son of the late Antoinette Hollis Simpson and Charles Betts Simpson, Sr. He was a retired teacher and coach of 30 years, having taught in Russell, KY, Chester, SC, and retired from Eastside High School. He attended Clemson University where he played freshman basketball. He graduated "With Distinction" from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY. After retiring, Mr. Simpson officiated in the Greenville County Church Leagues. He was an avid sportsman and his hobby was breeding exotic birds.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Ann Merck Simpson; a daughter, Joby Nager and husband Kenny, of Eagle, CO; a son, David G. Simpson, Jr. of Central; a grandson, Heath Nager; a brother, John A. Simpson and wife Rose of Due West, SC; two sisters, Annie Joe Jirel and husband Bob of Leesville, SC; Antoinette "Toni" Snead and husband H.P. of Great Falls, SC; and twelve nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Charles Betts Simpson, Jr.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Von Reynolds and Rev. Dr. Kurt McPherson officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Foothills; 390 Keowee School Road; Seneca, SC 29672.
