Gerald R. Prevost, affectionately known as Jerry, passed away on May 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that deeply touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on January 22, 1940, to the late John and Dorothy Prevost, Jerry’s life was a testament to devotion to his family, his faith, and the joy he found in sharing both with those around him.
Jerry shared 41 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia, who preceded him in death. Together, they weathered life’s journeys hand in hand, finding joy in raising their daughter and later delighting in watching their family blossom and grow. Their shared love for travel led them to memorable trips to Edisto and Fripp Island, where they enjoyed cherished times with friends, strengthening bonds that would last a lifetime.
A man of warmth and humor, Jerry’s sweet nature and quick wit brought smiles and laughter to his family and friends alike. He possessed a rare gift for making others feel comfortable and loved, often weaving his bright and funny personality into gentle lessons of faith. His way of sharing the word of God was not through solemnity but through genuine joy and heartfelt connection, leaving a lasting imprint on his church family and community.
Jerry’s pride in being a devoted Christian was evident in his many roles at Parkway Baptist Church in Mississippi, where he faithfully served as a Deacon and Minister of music, and later at Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Easley, SC. His participation in mission trips reflected a deep commitment to service and outreach, reinforcing his belief in living a life enriched by faith and compassion.
Beyond his spiritual dedication, Jerry was a fun-loving father and grandfather who held his family close to his heart. Whether gathered around the dinner table or spending time outdoors, he infused every moment with laughter and love. His hobbies, hunting, fishing, and being a die-hard Clemson fan, were passions he embraced with enthusiasm and shared with those he cared about.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Kathy Lynn Swartwood (Steve); his grandchildren, Cole Swartwood and Sydnie Swartwood; his sisters-in-law, Linda Jackson (Fred) and Barbara Prevost; his nephews, Tim, Keith & Barry Prevost, and Dwight Fortenberry; and his niece, Cyndi Ray, as well as close friend and caretaker Gail Moody.
He is preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, John and Dorothy Prevost, and his brother, Billy Prevost.
There will be a private graveside service with a celebration of life to be held at a date to be announced at a later time.
As we remember Gerald R. Prevost, we honor a man whose life was filled with grace, humor, and unwavering faith. He leaves behind a family and community forever shaped by his kindness and spirit. Jerry’s memory will continue to inspire all who knew him, reminding us of the profound impact a loving soul can have on the world.
