Gerald James “Jerry” Redmond, born on February 22, 1947, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at his home in Clemson.

Born in Roanoke, VA, he was the older son of the late Dare Vincent Redmond and Mary Hannah Marion Redmond. Jerry grew up in Woodlawn, VA and was a 1965 graduate of Woodlawn High School. He graduated from Guilford College in 1969 and earned his masters degree from Clemson University in 1978. Jerry served in the US Air Force from 1969 to 1973, participating in over fifty combat missions in Vietnam. Jerry later worked for the US Department of Veterans Affairs in Columbia before retiring in 2002.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Jerry enjoyed hiking, photography, music, watercolor painting, and reading. He traveled the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway capturing photos of wildflowers. He hiked on the Appalachian Trail in the Roan Highlands and climbed to the peak of Table Rock Mountain SC. Jerry completed both the SC Master Gardener program and the SC Master Naturalist program. He hosted several in-home concerts supporting independent artists. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clemson and the Clemson Fellowship Club.

Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather (our G’pa) and brother. He is survived by his wife Beth Lanham Redmond, his brother Alan Redmond of Kingsport, TN, his daughters Mary Beth Russell (Adam) of Clemson and Caroline Weghorn (Matt) of Charlotte, his granddaughters Emily Russell, Haddie Russell and Mary Kate Russell, and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Church of Clemson, Capital Campaign, 397 College Avenue, Clemson 29631 or to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, 717 S Marshall Street, Suite 105B, Winston-Salem NC 27101-5865.

A memorial service in honor of Jerry will be held Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 1:30PM at First Baptist Church of Clemson, with the visitation to follow in the Family Life Center.
