Geraldine Gouge “Gerry” Tilson

Geraldine Gouge Tilson, 84, died Wednesday March 2nd at her home under the care of Lutheran Hospice. Born in Washington County, TN, Gerry was raised on a farm by her parents Robert and Birdie Gouge. She later moved to the greater Atlanta area with her two small children to pursue better career opportunities for her family.
DeKalb County Schools is where she served as Teacher, Principal, and Instructional Coordinator of Vocational Education and Staff Development. She also taught at Mercer University as an adjunct Professor. Her B.S. degree was earned at East Tennessee State University, M.S. degree at the University of Georgia, and Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Woodrow Wilson College of Law.
Gerry served on the Georgia United Credit Union board for 39 years and as their chairwoman from 2000-2008. She was an active member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association, serving as president from 2000-2001, treasurer of the GREA Foundation 2007-2008 and served on the Foundation until 2014 when she moved to South Carolina to be near her family.
Gerry also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an active part of the fine arts community; taking in plays and becoming a member of the Roswell photographic society with her husband Robert P. “Bob” Jones, who has predeceased her. Her son, Dwight Allen Tilson, has also predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Tilson Gill (Charles E. “Peck” Gill Jr.), 2 granddaughters Ashley Tilson Gill (Jason L. Sweezy) and Laura Gill Spearman (Chad G. Spearman) and 3 great-grandsons Levi Branham Gill, Tilson Grey Spearman and Reed Gardner Spearman.
Receiving of friends will be held Friday March 4th from 6-7:30 at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29642.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 5th at 4pm at St. Matthias Lutheran Church, 501 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29642. An entombment service will be held on Sunday March 6th at North Atlanta Memorial Park on Winters Chapel Rd, Doraville GA.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Matthias Lutheran Church of Easley or the Georgia Retired Educators Foundation.
