Mrs. Gladys Aiken Bates, 85, wife of the late Richard Byrd Bates, Sr. passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Brookdale-Easley.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Garland and Hassie Galloway Aiken, Mrs. Bates was a graduate of Easley High School and retired from Alice Manufacturing-Elljean Plant. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Angela Gross (David) of Easley; a special friend, Mendel Masters of Easley; a sister-in-law, Mary Bates Kay of Easley; a brother-in-law, Donnie Bates (Judy) of Liberty; three grandchildren, Richard B. Bates, III, Natasha Hamby (John) and Zachary Gross; and four great-grandchildren, Abigail Bates, Olivia Bates, Connor Hamby and Madisen Hamby. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bates was predeceased by two sons, Richard Byrd Bates, Jr. and Gregory Bates; one brother and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 PM Saturday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
